The First FAO/WHO/AU International Food Safety Conference

The training workshop on Capacity Building to Strengthen Food Safety Analytical Capacity for Reporting on the Biennial Review was conducted on 20 – 22 May 2019 n Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The African Union Commission (AUC) recognizes the importance of addressing food safety issues in order to attain a prosperous Africa. Therefore, to catalyze efforts in addressing food safety on the continent, the AUC has called on its Member States to start reporting on food safety through the Malabo Biennial Review (BR) mechanism, a tool developed for regular reporting of country progress on agricultural transformation to the AU Assembly. The Member States’ performances are presented in the form of a “Country Scorecard” in implementing the Malabo Commitments. The Inaugural BR Report was presented and adopted at the 30th Ordinary Session of the AU Summit in January 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The report fosters alignment, harmonization and coordination among multi-sectoral efforts and multi-institutional platforms for peer review, mutual learning and mutual accountability
